Green Projects at The Cove

The Cove of Lake Geneva recently completed the first of two green projects scheduled for late summer, early fall. The traditional incandescent light bulbs in use throughout the luxury suites were replaced with the energy saving compact fluorescent light bulbs or CFL’s. Using less energy is beneficial in that it lessens our carbon footprint on the environment.

You may be curious to know the average lifespan of a CFL bulb is 8 to 15 times that of incandescent, averaging 15,000 hours!

This fall, The Cove will put a white coating over the existing tarred roof. The white coating will reflect a substantial amount of heat caused by the sun, resulting in lower roof surface temperatures.

Black tar roofs can absorb as much as 90% of solar energy—radiating it into the interior, increasing the cooling load on the building’s air conditioning system!
These lower temperatures on average will decrease interior building temps by about five degrees, resulting in a drastic decline of energy used by the air conditioning system.

We encourage everyone to learn more on the different ways you can help preserve our environment. Please visit EPA
