Enjoy a Christmas Away from Home this Year

Celebrating the holidays away from home at a travel destination? Spending a family Christmas vacation at a resort can be a wonderful way to celebrate the holidays and can be a great way to break out of the ordinary! Be sure to follow these few tips to make sure you don’t miss a step to ensuring your family has a wonderful holiday vacation away from home!

1. Play Santa

Be sure to wrap your gifts early if you plan on taking them for the trip. Be sure to package your gifts much more carefully than you would normally, especially if they are fragile, to avoid any damage that may occur during your travels. If you don’t have much extra room to travel with your gifts, ship them before you leave home. If you ship to the address that you will be arriving at, it will save you from traveling with them.

2. Don’t Forget

To ensure that you have a great family vacation, be sure that your trip and your planned activities are enjoyable for everyone in the family. Before you finalize any details, sit down with your entire family and make sure that each person has a say in something they would like to do while on vacation. Also, be sure that you have set aside enough time on your trip so that everyone can enjoy their favorite activities.

3. Weather Planning

If you are planning on partaking in outside activities, be sure to check the weather forecast. If you are going to check out one of Lake Geneva’s special holiday events while you’re in town, be sure you know the weather ahead and pack accordingly.

4. Arrive Early

When making travel plans, always check for road construction and road closings. The last thing you want to do on your way to your vacation destination is to get stuck in traffic if you can avoid it. Also be sure to leave at the appropriate time to avoid rush hour or congested roads.

5. Santa Questions

Planning on celebrating Christmas morning while you’re on vacation? When your children start asking questions like “How will Santa find me if I’m away from home,” have your responses ready and reply with reassurance that Santa is always watching!

And most importantly……….Have a Very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Traveling with Kids? Be sure to book with a Kid-Friendly Hotel!

When traveling with kids, your hotel room will most likely get a lot of use due to naps, changing clothes, meal and snack times, etc. But you also will want to book a hotel room that is close to activities. Kids get worn out more quickly with lots of transportation and you will want them fresh for the activities you have planned.

Here are some kid-friendly features you might want to look for when booking your room:

• Adjoining rooms or larger rooms - this can give your kids enough room to move around and play.
• A separate seating area away from the beds/bedrooms - This will allow the adults a place to chat while the kids nap.
• Soundproofing - Whether you don’t want to upset other guests with noisy children or you don’t want your children to be disturbed, try to ask for rooms away from popular and busy areas such as the front desk and pool area.
• Kid friendly restaurants - Whether it’s an onsite restaurant or within walking distance, you will want a kid-friendly restaurant that is close, to avoid having to get kids in and out of the car, which can sometimes be a hassle within itself.
• A pool and/or other kid friendly amenities such as organized children’s activities.
• Free wireless internet - It’s a great and quiet way for you to be entertained while your children are asleep.
• Refrigerator - Perfect for storing drinks and refrigerated snacks.
• A Kitchen or kitchenette that can be used to cook meals and snacks - This is also a plus because your family will save money by not having to eat out at every meal.
• Walking distance to markets, restaurants, coffee shops, etc to pick up quick essentials.

Overall, whatever your budget, you should look for accommodations in a central location that is close to attractions and offers easily accessible transportation or is so close to attractions where no transportation is needed. Better yet look for free transportation to major attractions.

Make Vacationing with Children Enjoyable

Traveling with small children? Enjoy these 10 helpful tips to make your vacation as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

1. When deciding what toys to take on your trip, consider a travel-sized MagnaDoodle. The pen is attached by a string so you won’t have to worry about losing any pieces and you’ll never run out of drawing paper! Write words, draw pictures, and play games!

2. Think about purchasing Goodnites. They protect kids from accidents, which tend to occur more when traveling or sleeping in different locations.

3. If traveling with very curious and active children, take along a package of outlet covers. Most hotels don’t think to provide these and they could save you from a major problem. Also think about bringing stove/oven knob covers or simply removing the knob covers when not cooking.

4. Be sure to pack a change of clothes for yourself. Children are often very clumsy and you won’t want to be wearing around that sticky, wet, or dirty clothing all day.

5. If you are traveling with small children, especially ones that tend to wander, here’s a tip that may calm some of your worry. Before you leave for your trip, visit a local hospital and ask if they will make a plastic bracelet for each of your children. Most hospitals will do this for you and then you can put whatever information you would like on a slip of paper and insert it into the bracelet.
6. Always keep a recent photo of your child with you. You never know if your children will wander off and this will help you in locating them.

7. To make your trip a little easier pack an entire day’s worth of clothing, a change of clothes, sufficient diapers, and food in a Ziploc bag for each day of travel. Then each day you can just throw a new Ziploc bag in your diaper bag and you’re ready to go.

8. Buy hand sanitizer or baby wipes before you leave for your trip. It works perfect for cleaning dirty, sticky hands when you can’t get to a restroom.

9. Buy an inexpensive camera for children that are old enough to use one. This way your children can photograph their trip from their perspective.

10. Be sure to pack snacks to keep your children satisfied during meals and prepackage them or buy small, individual packages which will make it easy to pack and serve. Also be sure that the snacks are easy to eat and won’t cause a big mess. Don’t forget to bring easy to drink beverages like juice boxes as well.

Plan the Perfect Summer Vacation Close to Home

Summer vacations are the perfect opportunity to get away to a favorite spot for some relaxation or to spend time with your family. However, if your trip is not planned correctly, you will spend your vacation stressed out! Here are some travel tips to make this summer vacation your best one yet:

Pack Plenty of Sun Screen, Hats and Sunglasses
The sun is stronger in the summer and there is nothing worse than having sunburn on vacation. So be sure that you pack plenty of sunscreen and reapply often. This is especially important if you plan on spending time on Geneva Lake or at The Cove of Lake Geneva’s outdoor pools.

Be Flexible
Leave a little wiggle room in your plans. There is so much to do in Lake Geneva from spending time on the lake to shopping at the downtown boutique shops that you will enjoy more of your vacation if you are flexible about what you and your family wants to do during your visit.

Bring a Camera
Not only that, but don’t forget your charger or an extra memory card. There is so much to do in Lake Geneva, you will not want to miss out on any experiences you are going to have or miss out on capturing the beauty of the city or the lake.

Keep the Kids Amused
Lake Geneva offers families many children friendly activities, as does The Cove of Lake Geneva. While at The Cove, you can relax while your children enjoy our children’s friendly pool, daily summer activities, live poolside bands on weekends, and nightly dive in movies. Or if you venture out into Lake Geneva, treat them to an ice cream social boat ride on the Geneva Lake Cruise Line or to a game of mini golf.

Be Prepared For Rain or Cooler Weather
While everyone hopes for warm, sunny weather on their vacation, sometimes that isn’t the case. If that happens during your stay at The Cove, your family can still enjoy the indoor pool, hot tub, and sauna, as well as the arcade. Or venture out into town and enjoy an enclosed boat tour of the lake or a movie at the local theater.

Don’t Overdo It, Relax
The Cove of Lake Geneva’s suites provide guests with the luxuries of home by offering fully equipped kitchens, whirlpool tubs, pillow top mattress beds, and a multitude of other amenities. Spend your day’s relaxing by the pool, out on the lake, or walking around town and checking out all the great boutique shops. Vacation is all about relaxing, so do it!
