Make Vacationing with Children Enjoyable

Traveling with small children? Enjoy these 10 helpful tips to make your vacation as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

1. When deciding what toys to take on your trip, consider a travel-sized MagnaDoodle. The pen is attached by a string so you won’t have to worry about losing any pieces and you’ll never run out of drawing paper! Write words, draw pictures, and play games!

2. Think about purchasing Goodnites. They protect kids from accidents, which tend to occur more when traveling or sleeping in different locations.

3. If traveling with very curious and active children, take along a package of outlet covers. Most hotels don’t think to provide these and they could save you from a major problem. Also think about bringing stove/oven knob covers or simply removing the knob covers when not cooking.

4. Be sure to pack a change of clothes for yourself. Children are often very clumsy and you won’t want to be wearing around that sticky, wet, or dirty clothing all day.

5. If you are traveling with small children, especially ones that tend to wander, here’s a tip that may calm some of your worry. Before you leave for your trip, visit a local hospital and ask if they will make a plastic bracelet for each of your children. Most hospitals will do this for you and then you can put whatever information you would like on a slip of paper and insert it into the bracelet.
6. Always keep a recent photo of your child with you. You never know if your children will wander off and this will help you in locating them.

7. To make your trip a little easier pack an entire day’s worth of clothing, a change of clothes, sufficient diapers, and food in a Ziploc bag for each day of travel. Then each day you can just throw a new Ziploc bag in your diaper bag and you’re ready to go.

8. Buy hand sanitizer or baby wipes before you leave for your trip. It works perfect for cleaning dirty, sticky hands when you can’t get to a restroom.

9. Buy an inexpensive camera for children that are old enough to use one. This way your children can photograph their trip from their perspective.

10. Be sure to pack snacks to keep your children satisfied during meals and prepackage them or buy small, individual packages which will make it easy to pack and serve. Also be sure that the snacks are easy to eat and won’t cause a big mess. Don’t forget to bring easy to drink beverages like juice boxes as well.
